Otoplastia

Otoplastia

Otoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that reshapes the ear to give it a more aesthetic appearance. This surgery allows us to reposition protruding ears by surgically positioning them so that they are closer to the head, with a greater fold.

The development of the ears ends at around four years of age, so from this age onwards this intervention can be carried out without altering the development of this area. It is advisable to operate at an early age so that this aesthetic defect does not affect their self-esteem and social relations, as it is a procedure that will allow us to give the ears a more appropriate and aesthetic appearance, and even in the case of large ears, to reduce their size or redefine their lobe.

An outpatient surgery

Otoplasty is an intervention that must be performed in an operating room, it usually lasts approximately 1 hour and is performed on an outpatient basis, since you are discharged about 20-30 minutes after your surgery. It is carried out under local anesthesia and with sedation for greater peace of mind during the intervention.

The surgery begins with a small incision in the back of the ear. The cartilage is then sculpted using different scratching techniques, shaping the ear and later providing internal fixation points to maintain its new shape. In addition to this, it is sometimes necessary to remove a small fragment of cartilage in the area of the auricular to avoid an extremely artificial appearance of ears.
